Was reading that Adam Curry (yes the ole' MTV VJ) has developed code that uses RSS to download streaming audio content to an iPod for later listening (check out iPodder.org). Has anyone tried this?

Am curious if it is usable for the casual user and is easy to installed. I'd LOVE to be able to capture streaming audio so I can listen to it at my leisure. Any other ecommendations?

Wow Blues your the only one talking about this? (with the exception of a few threads inquiring how to do this.)

I found out about this from a short story on iPodlounge's main page. The funny thing is I was just thinking about this sort of thing the other day! I was wondering if anyone would come up with a way to put broadcast radio or talk shows on the iPod. Low and behold looks like Adam Curry has done it! Kudo's to Adam, he rocks!

I've also noticed some of the comments after that short story. Some people think that this whole concept underminds copyrights and such. The thing is all the content come from the people that created it which makes them the copyright holders. (Well that's unless they broadcast something that someone else owns the copyright too.) I just want to say there is nothing illeagle about downloading or obtaining a program from someone who created it and is willing to give it away. :) This method is also not streaming in real time, so it by no means is a real broadcast in the sense that any of it is live in real time. There really is very little in this concept that the FCC has the right to govern.

Actually as it turns out, this isn't entirly a new idea, aparently RSS feeds with audio attached has been around for a little while. Adam's concept just grabs these audio files and throws them into your iPod. Thanks Adam for making a somewhat new idea even a better one! There are many voices in the world that want to be heard with out restrictions, and now they have an avenue to do it. Thanks again! Pirate radio is in the past.. Pirate Podcast is the present and will lead the way into the future. :)

i saw a piece on ipodder and podcasting on The Screen Savers (G4TechTV), and immediately did some internet scouring. i think it's a great idea, and considering it's somewhat still in its infancy, there's a great variety of feeds out there.

i think in order for the feeds to be automatically uploaded to your ipod, you must have the autosync feature on. i just wish 2 things ... someone would write up a basic tutorial giving step-by-step instructions on exactly how to set it up (considering i fumbled my way through it), and that feeds could provide a preview clip so you know what you're subscribing to.

i feel that adam curry has made the ipod even more versatile than it already was. even though it's compatible with many MP3 players, you gotta love that it's called iPodder. :D and what's better? it's open source ... and his move of genius was the posting of daily updates for coders to download and tinker with. the community has taken a great idea and made it something revolutionary.

I've been grabbing a few podcasts here and there. My only issue is that you have to manually move them to the iPod once they're downloaded.

Well, that is, if you're using iTunes. I don't keep my music on my powerbook. The nice thing about iPodder is that it creates a playlist for your podcasts. So I thought I could select "update only the selected playlists" and it wouldn't touch anything else.

WRONG! My iPod got wiped out of everything except the two podcasts I'd downloaded. Needless to say, I was a bit miffed. I wish Apple would change the term "sync" to "mirror" That way it was really clear that it would mirror that's on your computer.

(I've had iPods long enough to know that's what auto-update was but didn't think it would do that if you selected the playlist option)

There needs to be a "only ADD atuff ot my iPod, don't delete it." option.
