Okay, so I've lashed out and bought a dock for my mini. Great, I can get home, drop it in, synch, charge and listen to my tunes, right? Well, yeah, up until the listen bit.

I might be missing something here, but it doesn't seem possible to listen to the mini through the line out while the dock is connected to a computer that is on.

So I can have the computer on, charge the pod and no tunes
Or I can have the computer off, flatten the battery and tunes

Is this right? Is there a way for the mini to function normally while it is connected to a computer that is on, just like it does when plugged into the wall?

I am pretty sure that once your mini is connected to a computer, it cannot and will not play until unplugged. I do believe that there is a program out there that allows one to listen to music while syncing... but I'm not completely sure.

I know that SiK makes a power-only Firewire cable, so when used with your iPod, it wouldn't mount, and you could play through the dock. A hassle, though, as you'd have to switch it out with a regular Firewire cable when you want to sync. This is why I bought an extra dock. One for updating, one for music.

I was afraid of that. Seems kind of an oversight if you ask me. Thanks for the responses, I'll keep my eyes peeled for a hack that'll let me do things the way I want them done!
