Please choose the appropriate forum for this topic. Thank you. I have been reading the most recent posts but could not find information about upgrading/changing ipods. I am changing from a 3G 20GB to a 4G 40GB and am worried about my purchased songs. Last time I was on the phone with the Ipod help center, the guy mentioned something about deauthorizing. All I can find out about is deauthorizing my computer...and I am not going to be using a different computer. Before I send my old ipod back, I want to make sure that I will not have trouble getting my purchased iTunes songs onto the newer 4G ipod.
Can anyone help?

Welcome to the lounge. Deauthorizing is to deauthorize iTunes on your current computer because you can only authorized up to 5 computers to play purchased music in iTunes. So if your going to get a new computer then you would deauthorize iTunes on the old one first. This would be when you would need to do this.
For the new iPod to play purchased music you only have to use the current software update (http://www.apple.com/ipod/download) for the iPod. It is on the disk that will come with the iPod.

Thanks Honeybee. Sorry for my lack of knowledge on this, but when a friend hooked up her iPod to my computer, she could not load the songs that i had purchased from iTunes. Just need to make sure that this error is not going to happen with my new iPod...because it would mean lots of lost money with music that I have purchased. I will be using the same computer...but it seems that iTunes will allow transfers to only one iPod. Is this the case or will your advice still work?
