Cannot sync some cds in itunes to ipod

Hi, i've been using itunes for about two years and have never encounter this problem. I recently had my laptop reimaged by the college and lost all of my songs, so i reripped them using 320 and lossless

When i sync my library to my ipod, a window pops up saying some songs cannot be synced into the ipod

i've noticed mostly the ones that cannot be synced is the ones that are ripped by applelossless

i have a 2nd gen ipod can that be the problem? simply the 2nd gen cannot read lossless files?

(all the cds without using lossless were successfully synced onto my ipod before the reimaging)
