so, i've been using iTunes for the most part w/ my iPod, but have been trying a couple of alternatives (namely Anapod Explorer and Winamp 5.05 w/ the ml_iPod plugin).

unfortunately, after i use any application other than iTunes to transfer songs to/from my iPod, all sounds in Windows (including music files, system WAV sounds, CD playback, games) become very choppy and annoying, even after rebooting or powering off the PC. the only way i've found to remedy this has been to boot my PC with my Windows XP installation CD and run a repair.

(before finding that solution, i also attempted the logical things, like updating the sound drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling the sound card, uninstalling/reinstalling Anapod and Winamp, etc. nothing worked.)

has anyone else experienced or heard of this? any solutions or ways to prevent it? i'd rather not have to use iTunes, but it's getting to the point that i'll have to. thanks.

btw, some specs . . .

iPod, 3rd Gen 15 GB (v 2.2)
Windows XP Professional SP2
Firewire connection
1.7 Ghz Pentium 4, 512 MB RAM
