I tunes won't recognize a CD

I just had a 40g ipod sent from america to my work over in Iraq. I loaded the program into my new laptop and tryed to burn song from a cd to the ipod using Itunes. The thing won't work. I put the cd in, the window pops up and asks me what I want to do. I choose to play using itunes, itunes opens and nothing else happens. The cd's work great in Win media player but don't even get reconized by the system in Itunes. If you could shed any light for me it would be nice.

I don't mean to be rude but how is your location relevant to the problem you're having with the ipod?
