Hi, I've had a look and I can't find an answer to this so I thought I'd ask! Apologies if this is a repeat.

My iPod is due either monday or tuesday and I'm wondering about syncing using iTunes. I want my whole archive on there and I want to involve iTunes because I happen to like it, but my archive is currently in the region of 1300 songs. As I understand from reading the manual, iTunes will sync all checked songs unless you tell it otherwise. Will I be able to sync all songs on one battery charge or will it take longer? Also, is this volume of songs going to cause problems? Is there any way to sync in blocks just to check I don't damage the HDD on first go?

While I haven't gotten mine yet either (expecting it next week): according to all the posts I've read, whether you connect via USB or Firewire, the iPod is going to be drawing a charge down the wire along with the tunes. So instead of worrying about whether your charge is going to last, you should be actually picking up a charge in the process.

If that's inaccurate, I'm sure our colleagues here will correct me :-)

According to the manual it'll drain power. From what I understand it might not drain as fast/much/at all.

I'm really curious as to whether there are any downsides to syncing 1300 songs (or 4.7 GB if you prefer) in one go though.

Hi. First time poster. Got my 4G 20GB yesterday. I charged it for about 20 minutes before syncing. Over USB 2.0 it appeared to be drawing a charge down the line while idle, and appeared to hold its level while the syncing was actually going on. My library's about the same as yours. My advice, however, would be to let it go for 45 or an hour before syncing, because when I rebooted my machine the level dropped pretty quick and I started to get worried.

But it's hard, so hard to resist once you get that box open.

Edit: Over USB 2.0, 1400 songs took less than 15 minutes.
