View Full Version : Theory about 4G Cases

Here is my theory, for what it's worth...

With the drop in iPod prices and the appearance of HP iPods, the iPod will soon be no longer the elitist device, attracting envy, that it once was. How then will the elite distinguish themselves? Through their iPod cases, of course. This is really the only way you can add personality and class to the "ivory brickette". Hence those that care to distinguish themselves will spend silly amounts of money on delicately stiched Vaja cases, while the plebs will inhabit the bottom of the barrel with their flacid Lajo skins.

This may not be enough for the elites though. Apple may be forced to produce limited edition iPods to keep the elites from turning elsewhere. Perhaps they will introduce iPods with arty casings. They may produce special versions where the amplifiers and processors have been designed by the top names in hi-fi equipment. If they don't do this then the iPod is destined to fade into obscurity.

Discuss. :)

If you buy an iPod because it looks good, or because you want to feel like one of the elite, then you're wasting your money. However, if you buy an iPod because of music, then it's money well spent.

I hope that a "class divide" among iPod users will never happen. It has to be all about the music, not what case you use or who made the insides of your iPod.

I don't think that even you really even thing that yourself zaccix, if it were really about the music then you would buy an iriver, as it has more features etc.

So you're statement "It has to be all about the music, not what case you use or who made the insides of your iPod." doesn't really apply to anybody who owns an ipod.

How does focusing on music equate to requiring more features on a DAP? Shouldn't it be the opposite, as more features might distract from the music?

The iRiver, while being a good player in its own right, has too much feature-creep for my liking. iPod usage has a smoothness to it, which is one of the reasons I chose to buy one. I don't care for Ogg and WMA playback (don't like either of those formats), or an FM tuner or on-player encoding.

I didn't buy an iPod to join an in-crowd, and will be listening to it long after the hype has died down.

It doesn't have to be about anything, my man...it could be that the person choosing between two devices picks one because of the asthetics.....that's happened before....I wouldn't presume to speak for all Ipod users motivations, nor would I judge them....best, BP.

Aye, some people do buy a DAP due to how it looks, and I'm not gonna stop anyone from buying what they buy because of that. I still think it's a silly reason for choosing a music player, though. :)
