Hello All,

iPod newbie here who's been lurking for a few days, and not that computer savvy. I just got a 4G 40 GB iPod, and have some questions.

1)Whenever I go to my iPod icon in My Computer, it shows a bunch of empty folders that are named in a font I don't recognize. Is this something that might have happened when I accidentally tried to (re)format my iPod to work w/ Windows?

2) On iTunes, there's a gray scale bar at the bottom of the screen. What exactly is this? What confuses and worries me more is that it says: "Used: 29.88 GB, Free: 7.27 GB". (On Properties, it also says the same for capacity). Further down below the scale it says: "1855 Songs, 5.5 Days, 7.42 GB". Why the discrepancy? Is the scale bar measuring how much is on the iTunes playlist at a given time, or how much space my iPod actually has left? I'm encoding my songs via AAC @ 128 kbps. I thought I could put at least 10, 000 songs into a 40 GB at that rate (not just 2000+)?

3)Finally, whenever I open iTunes and hook up my iPod, a blue screen appears that says that the system detected an error, and to check/uninstall new software/programs. Only way I've worked around it is to restart my computer, try the whole thing again and the "iPod needs to be updated" screen comes up, and usually with just the reformat option. The only way I've worked around that problem is to unplug the iPod. It's driving me bonkers as it usually takes a lot of time to restart, and do the whole plug-o-rama.

whew. (wipes forehead)

Thanks in advance who can answer any of my queries. Much appreciate it! =)

3) When the reformat option came up (not update AND reformat, just reformat), it told me to close other apps that may be using the pod, I closed iTunes, and then redid it,... Try that
