iPod 3.0 for Windows 98

I just purchase a 20GB iPod (I believe 3rd or 4th generation..I'm not sure. It's brand new) for use with my Windows 98 system. The software that it came with says 3.0. Is there any way possible that I can use this iPod with this system, or do I have to upgrade to Windows 2000?
