Hi everyone

I am currently developing a piece of software that I will use as a replacement for iTunes. I doing this I am currently working on an interface that let's my software communicate with the iPod.

I myself have an iPod mini. But this is just one among many iPods currently on the market. My interface has a part that lets me read the firmware version and other version information. But as no official information exists on the values I get I need some help from people with other iPods than the mini.

If you would like to give me a hand I would like if you either post the contents of your Sysinfo file (located in the \iPod_Control\Device folder of a Windows formatted iPod. This directory is usually hidden, but you can access it either by making Windows show hidden files and folders or by typing the path in the adress line). Just paste the info here with a text naming your iPod (1G, 2G, 3G and so on) so that i know what the things in the file is related to. You may also send me the info in an e-mail as an attachment or just with the text from the Sysinfo file pasted. Mail it to vulture @ emdrupborg dot dk (remove spaces and replace the word dot with a .).

Thanks for all your help.

Final note: The software I am developing will not be commercial in any way. It will be entirely non-profit for me and I plan to release the source code for the iPod interface as Open Source on SourceForge.net when I am done.

Forgot to mention that you can open the sysinfo file with notepad. Open notepad. Select "Open" from the file menu. Paste the following in the Filename field: X:\iPod_Control\Device\sysinfo (replace X with the drive letter where your iPod is connected).

Then you will get something like this (this is for the iPod mini):

BoardHwName: iPod Q22pszSerialNumber: JQ4281Z5PFWModelNumStr: M9160FirewireGuid: 0x007A1076HddFirmwareRev: DN4ACA2ARegionCode: (0x0011)PolicyFlags: 0x00000001buildID: 0x02308000 (2.3)visibleBuildID: 0x01108000 (1.1)boardHwRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)boardHwSwInterfaceRev: 0x00040012 (0.0.4 18)bootLoaderImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)diskModeImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)diagImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)osImageRev: 0x00000000 (0.0 0)iPodFamily: 0x00000003updaterFamily: 0x00000003

This is what I want you to paste. Please help me. It will not help only me but also other trying to develop software for your iPod.

Hi, i had problems to collect info that I needed for app too.

What i did was to make a small .exe that i asked ppl to run.

They open it, and it auto gathred the info I needed to the screen so the end user could just copy/paste it to a mail and ship.

I got lot more feedback when i just asked people to run the exe/copy/paste to mail and send, than asking them to examine files and stuff (since its much easier for them).

its just a suggestion to help u getting more feedback.
If you make a .exe like that, ill post it on my betaboard as well and ask my betatesters to run it, so u can get some info from them as well (i dont have more than 8-10 testers though)

Regards

Hi EsspeN

Thanks for your reply. You might be right. I will give it a go and make a small exe for people to run. Hopefully it will give some usefull info. And thanks for your offer to post it to your beta testers. That will be a great help.

Best regards
