I just bought a 4th gen 40Gb iPod and had a few questions.
My hard drive on my computer is only 40Gb and I planned to store all my songs on my iPod to free up space on my PC's hard drive (I have less than 10Gb of music as of right now). I was wondering how to go about managing the songs when they're on my iPod...for example, can I delete the songs off my computer and continue to update my iPod without deleting the library on my iPod? Will I be able to add and delete songs from my iPod if I have no songs on my PC? Can I create and delete playlists other than On-the-go playlists on my iPod, such as through iTunes?
Thank you all for your help.

yes, you can, just turn off auto sync, and just check the songs you want to load manually.

i dont think you can delete songs directly from the ipod. No you cant add songs to your ipod without a computer.

Yes, set the iPod to "manually manage songs and playlist" from the instructions here at the Apple website (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61131).

Yes, you can just drag-n-drop the songs onto the iPod.

Yes, to create a playlist and delete playlists on the iPod while it's connected to iTunes and set to manual. Just remember to burn any songs you download to a disk as a back up just in case something happens to the iPod - you won't lose your music.

This is the way I manage my music on my iPod - manually.

Welcome to the lounge. :)
