Now that Radiohead has released their newest album I have found myself digging through my collection of Radiohead CD's/MP3's. Each album seems to create its own entity and I am curious as to anyones feeling on the best Radiohead album, if there is one. Sometimes I find you can't define Radiohead without including their entire doscography.

It's nearly impossible for me, because each album is really different from the one before it. (not really with Kid A/Amnesiac, however)
Kid A has a special place in my heart, though. But they're all really good...

Theres a Radiohead album for everyone:
Kid A and Amnesiac for the more electronically inclined and into Aphex Twin and Sigur Ros
OK Computer for the those into Majestic and Prog-Rock (and those who just blindly agree with all the critics' accolades)
The Bends for the more guitar and rock oriented. This is my vote.
I would say the overwhelming majority would say OK Computer. The Bends would probly be second, and Kid A third.

I wouldn't say that Kid A/Amnesiac are for the more electronically inclined. They are just different, in that the sound/music itself is more important than the method of how the sound is produced. (which is usually by guitars) The sounds are much more "textured", and there is less of a focus on traditional song elements.
I don't really see the associtation with Aphex Twin, though. They may sound somewhat similar (and even that's stretching it in some cases), but they approach the music from different directions.
But yes, there is something for everyone.

What are Radiohead's best songs if you had to make a list? I was never really into Radiohead. I just liked the song where he's in that astrnaut suit and the helmet fills with water. Creep maybe?
What are your top 10 'head songs?

the best radiohead album race is wide open...i'd like to think that the race for best radiohead video would be MUCH closer, with that awesome, awesome video for "Just" from The Bends at first place, with "There There" a close second IMHO....

pablo honey is awesome.
anyone can play guitar is my favourite followed closely by stop whispering
cannot really get into all the recent ones...
remember when they supported REM at milton keynes bowl, truly awesome concert and very much a surprise for a support band.
recently bought the latest grandaddy album "sumday" and recommend it to radiohead fans.....I thought it had similarities anyway

Hmmm, can't really get into Pablo Honey, like a lot of other Radiohead fans I've heard from. Coming from Radiohead, Pablo Honey was lacking.

Yeah. I don't really dig Pablo Honey either. Everything from The Bends on rocks my world, but Pablo Honey doesn't do it for me.

My favorite Radiohead album is indubitably OK Computer. I believe that Rollingstone, not that this matters to me in any way, hailed it as the best album of the century. The Bends is also one of my favorites, and Pablo Honey has many good tunes, too. Kid A, on the other hand, lost me, and I haven't even bothered with Thief.
Next to Sgt. Pepper and (What's the Story) Morning Glory, OK Computer is my favorite record ever. Every song on it is special to me.
Fav Radiohead tunes include Let Down, No Surprises, High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, and Karma Police.

It's interesting to see that Let Down is on most people's list of their favorite songs. I just dig this tune so much, and it's definitely stood the test of time despite its very electronic sound, unlike The Chemical Brothers or Prodigy.

"Let Down" is a great song. I still have to say that Kid A was a really, really good album, on par with OK Computer. If you really listen to it, it's not that different from OK Computer. Oh well, to each his/her own...

The Bends wins for me though Paranoid Android is probably their best Single though No Suprises, Just etc etc aren't far behind.
Of the new stuff 2+2+5 is an instant hit, still listening to the rest of the album.
I had the pleasure of sitting down for a beer with Thom Yorke just before Kid A came out and he said prepare yourself for a shock and boy was he right. Most of the material for Kid A and Amnesiac were recorded at the same time and have taken some listening to fully appreciate them whereas Thief seems to be taken what they learnt from the previous two and begun to mix it back with more familiar sounds.
If you can't get your head round Kid A and amnesiac then I suggest picking up a Live DVD, the songs seem to make a lot more sense to me Live than they do on the CD. Just my opinion mind.

I stumbled upon Radiohead on accident. My friend let me listen to a variety of his CDs on the bus one day, and for some reason, his Radiohead album "OK Computer" really caught my ear.
So far, it is the only album i have heard and owned, so i can't really say what my favorite album is without a comparison to another. But if one album continuously satisfies my harmonious ears....then it must be really good (to me).
I am interested in hearing "Kid A" but haven't gotted around to purchasing it. From what i have heard, it is really a good album.

How did you get to do that?!
Long story.
I grew up in Oxford when the band were just kicking off and used to go to their early gigs and hang out and drink in the same places. In fact I worked in a bar where all the bands hung out.
I moved away from Oxford just about when Pablo Honey came out but still keep in touch with one of my oldest friends who I used to play in a band with many moons ago. Anyway he still gigs and records in Oxford and his wife is a good friend of Thom's girlfriend so we all ended up in a Pub together a few years back getting ####ed and talking about "the old days".

If I had to pick a best album it would be The Bends, and I think Pablo Honey is too often overlooked (try it again if you like guitar rock).
My 'Best of' CD just burned today:
Black Star
Blow Out
Just
Vegetable
Sulk
Karma Police
There There.
Ripcord
The Bends
Stop Whispering
Let Down
(Nice Dream)
Bones
Anyone Can Play Guitar
Creep (Acoustic Version)
Scatterbrain.
High And Dry
My Iron Lung
No Surprises
and this from someone who's first album was HTTT which I didn't much like, but I like the earlier stuff a great deal.

I once bought a CD from the Oxfam shop and when I got it home it had no disc in it. Any Radiohead CD bought in the same way would be much better than a Radiohead CD which actually included the disc......

Yes! I certainly do. Especially when it comes to Radiohead, who aren't that bad really, and who have done a few great tracks, and a few more good ones, but who have been hyped way beyond their modest talent, and whose pretensions and self belief are excessive, even for an Oxford band....

For me, picking a favorite Radiohead album is like asking a parent to choose a favorite child... I love them all. But put a gun to my head, and I will choose OK Computer.
And bertuzzi, my favorite track is also Let Down.
If you ever have a chance to see them live, do. I've seen 2 shows and will never miss another. I've got tickets for both the Hollywood Bowl and San Diego shows later this month. In fact, if anyone is interested, I'm probably going to end up selling the second ticket I have for both shows... e-mail me
If any of you are also R.E.M. fans, check out REMHQ.com and look for Stipe's backstage photo journal - there's a great shot of Thom Yorke & Michael Stipe posing together with huge grins on their faces looking like two best buddies reunited after years apart

From the ones I have, Amnesiac, Kid A and Bends, Amnesiac is undoubtedly the best. It's actually good from beginning to end, and whilst the two other have some incredible highlights they're not as fulfilling for listening all the way through.
I didn't like Amnesiac at first, but it's really grown on me. Excellent album.

If creating 2 "great" albums and four more of groundbreaking if not instantly accessible music is modest talent then I truly wish everyone in the music industry had as little talent as them.

Well that's where we differ LoGan.
There are indisputably at least a handful of great tracks but, in my view, there are no consistently great albums. And beside other lesser known UK acts (I'd especially single out Gomez and Doves), Radiohead look like a band who have been hyped way beyond their modest talent.
And Thom Yorke's sheer irritation value does a lot to undermine any admiration one might have for them....

Then it is lucky that you are not a music journalist otherwise your views might dissuage young fans from sampling what are in the opinion of the vast majority of music lovers great albums.
The only people who have hyped Radiohead are the media the band certainly don't go out of their way to publicise themselves or their work. You can only blame journalists for any over hype.
I don't know how Thom can irritate you unless he perhaps is your neighbour, personally I find him a very charming, modest and interesting individual.
Perhaps it is just life that irritates you.

If you tend to like guitar rock, you'll like The Bends, OK Computer and even Pablo Honey. If you like lots of electronica thrown in, you'll like Kid A, Amnesiac and even OK Computer. IMHO, Hail to the Thief has it's moments, but I think it's not their best album. Radiohead is a fascinating, unique band.

Muse are way better than Radiohead. Much more original and multi-toned. And less irritating.
But still a bit 'shoe-gazing'.....
Why stop there? Ride did that sort of thing very well.
If you want originality and talent in a British band, then try Gomez.

I already know about the Tune Pyramid Song which I already love, I took a quick scan of the rest of the album and nothing really jumps out a grabs me just yet however it took me a few listens to HTTT the really get into so I am just going to keep listening to it to internalize the music....
Although I still have to maintain the HTTT is brilliant.. I am DIGGING the last four tracks which include scatterbrain which is such a beautifully done track. Excellent guitar work and vocals...
