Docks!!!

I am new to ipods and just ordered an ipod mini. I heard lots of people have docks. What exactly do they do and are they wort the money?

The iPod docks are simply a white acrylic base that you plug your data/charger cable into. They allow the iPod to sit straight up, and also give you a digital-quality line-out. How useful they are greatly determines whether they are worth the price. I, for one, own a dock for my 4G iPod. I find it to be very useful, but mainly because my desk is rather cluttered. :P

I don't use a dock personally because I saw the sample minis at the Apple store. The bottom sections were all scratched up from being put into and being taken out of the docks all day. I'm not certain if it is something that's avoidable or not.

I use a dock to connect my iPod to my home stereo system. The iPod's AC adapter provides power, and the Dock's line-out sends audio to the stereo. Pretty easy.

Oh ok. So other than that feature, is there any other point in getting a dock?

I dunt own a dock, but they seem like a good way for apple to get an extra $40... in my opinion, they're useless

I think that you need to have a dock if you were to want to use the inmotion speakers, but im not sure.

No a dock is built in to the inMotions. Also you can get a dock for cheaper than $40 on Amazon, eBay, etc. I find it extremely useful. I use my iPod to wake me up, and it used to have wires coming out of both ends. It was really inconvenient. With the dock, the wires both come out the back and stay out of the way. Plus, my iPod is up off the table so the back doesn't scratch.

It also has a line out, so you can plug it into your speakers and it can play your music while you charge it.

i got my dock for 25 bucks on ebay shipped, and i use the line out for my speaker systems :) coolerfactor +++++ !!!!

Docks are useless UNLESS you want to hook up your iPod to your stereo.
