Hey there,

So here's a question... Would it be feasible to buy the necessary components to build an Aux input adapter (for a 2000 Honda Accord) for less than it would cost to buy the P.I.E. HON98-AUX adapter? (Currently $49.95 USD)

Please keep in mind I have little experience doing any car stereo stuff, but a moderate amount of bravery in experimenting.

Thanks.

In short, no...especially if you don't have any experience.

Your radio looks for a signal from the CD Changer that lets it know one is in fact attached. You'd have to build something incorporating a PLC or other chip to send this signal...not to mention the fact you actually need to know what bits/signal/etc the radio is expecting to enable the CD Changer input.

Depends, some car stereos are easy, some hard. I just built my own adaptor for my car stereo, an older Clarion unit, because i couldn't actually buy any cable that did such a job. Converting costs to $US fron NZ dollars, would have cost $5 US to make it. Hell of a lot cheaper than buying something premade. It didn't involve any complex data input or IC either and sounds crystal clear. Simply 5 core cable, to rca sockets and a switch (to short two pins together on the socket, to fool the unit into switching to aux cd mode).

It is very dependant on your type of unit ( I don't know what would be in the Honda) and what inputs it has on the back already.
