Ok I've been trolling the forum and reading up on other site, but now I am hoping to get some suggestions on Headphones.

So far, I purchased a pair of Triports after listening to them at the apple store. Hadn't really compared them. But I liked the bass, they were very comfortable, and the fact that they sealed out the outside world some didn???t hurt either. Unfortunately they seem to fall apart really easily so once I got a replacement pair sent to me, onto eBay went.

After some research I learned about the Grado's found a place locally and picked a pair of SR 80's. They certainly sound allot sharper than the Bose did. The bass isn't quite what I had hoped for. But from what I read after about 15 hours of use they really start to shine. The problem with these is they are quite uncomfortable. So they are going back. I???ve read about the mods that people do to them, but no offence to anyone I just thing that???s silly.

Ideally I'd love to find a pair of headphones that were as comfortable as the Bose but sound as good as the Grado's. While I prefer the closed design of the Bose, since I was easily able to listen to music while on an airplane, it is not a must.

Price point is around $100 but there is wiggle room there.

Thanks in advance for you time.

If you don't mind a pair of big phones, the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's are a great choice. Good balance of sound, nice punchy low-end, and overall a very involving sound. Noise isolation is superb, so they're great on an airplane, and they are really comfortable. Best of all, you can currently get them for ~$100. The only downside is that at 64 Ohms impedance, you might not get enough volume for your taste without a small amp, but you can try them and return if they're not up to task.

Actually the Grado SR80's are some of the best phones you can get, have you run them in?

Do this:

1. Use white noise (the noise between radio stations on FM), turn it up to the loudest volume your ears can bear.
2. Take off the phones and just increase the volume by a bit
3. Let this run continously for 100 hours
4. Check the sound quality - deep bass, not so shrill treble - really balanced and very unlike the sound straight of the box.

This rule can be applied to most headphones & speakers..

I'm very happy with how they sound, and I know that with time they will get even better. Unfortunately they just chafe when I have them on. I just saw that Grado has flat replacement pads that would fit them as well perhaps I'll give them a try.

Regardless I'm still open to any suggestions any of you might have.

Thanks =)
