I bought a new car this weekend, and as you Subie owners know, the HVAC controls and headunit are all integrated into the fascia. Anyone work around this yet?

Nope. I'm told that the Clarion unit is a bit tough to crack. The Subaru guys say that iPod integration will be availalbe with the '06s - and I doubt they'd change the whole interior to do it - so a published solution might be only a matter of months. In the meantime, I'm iTrippin'. BTW, I'm in an i Ltd. SWEET

Shame about next year having the navigation system and better sound system, from all rumors. The Japanese and Aussie models get a McIntosh system, but from reports they do not have AUX-IN.
I certainly hope a solution is forthcoming. I have that cheap Belkin transmitter, and it's useless. I'll have to try the iTrip.
Love the car - just a blast to drive. I think I may end up a Subaru driver for life.

tried to convince the wife we needed a WRX ... settled on the legacy L 35th anniversary edition instead, not that i'm complaining. those 4 cylinders pump out 165 HP, but it feels like twice that at times ... what a blast to drive.

The WRX STi was a lot of fun to drive, and surprisingly comfortable, even with my bad back. I also liked that the 2004 came with NO stereo, allowing me to use my Sony CDX-MP70. However, practicality won out, and I got the GT. Probably for the best, the 250 horses are enough to get me into trouble.
So, the iTrip - does anyone here in Northern VA use it? Seems we have a lot of channel bleed.

I've got a 2005 Legacy 2.5i Limited, which is the same basics as the GT with the antenna on the rear window.
I've found that Monster's iCarPlay Wireless works really well. Still a little static on the quieter moments, but nothing unreasonable. Its powerful enough to drown out even real stations. I live in the Philadelphia area, and frequently travel to Harrisburg/Lancaster and can use the same channel throughout.
I've heard from other people that this particular gizmo doesn't work in some cars. But it works great for me so I gotta love it (c:
Piece of advice tho: it works a *LOT* better plugged into the lighter that's just under the climate controls instead of the one in the "secret compartment" elbow rest.
I keep the iPod itself in the storage compartment above the radio.... anybody got some fun and awesome mounting solutions?

Nothing innovative. I have the iPod with iTrip on the console powered from the center console jack. It works.
Still waiting on a custom solution???

I have an 02 WRX with an Alpine 9835 HU and the Alpine iPod interface (currently having bad bursts of static through it from the iPod:( ).
I have several friends with Leg GTs. One of them told me that the JDM models have a double-DIN opening in the dash instead of the one that the US models have. He claimed that you could import that entire big dash piece if you wanted to put in an aftermarket HU. Haven't seen them myself but he is usually pretty knowledgable about Subarus. Just something to think about if you get an urge to upgrade.

You can buy that double-DIn through King of Imports, but the electronics for the GT 2005 models are wacky. The environmental controls are integrated with the radio. :(
