When I use my ipod plugged into my power inverter for extended periods of time (never stopping) I will take it out of the car only to find out that my ipod battery is dead.

How is this possible? I thought that the ipod only uses the battery when it isn't connected to AC power.

Can some people chime in as to if this happens to them as well and or if this same problem shows up when people with cigarette adapters use thier adapters while driving?

Thanks

The same thing (kinda sorta) happens to me. If I put the iPod in the car with a full battery, and use a cigarette adaptor to power it, after an extended road trip the battery will be dead when I unhook it. Even though it said "charging" the whole time.

Is it actually completely empty or does the guage just say it is?

I thought that might be the problem, that its just the guage but I have tried to use it right afterwards and the apple logo will come on for a few seconds and then the LCD gets turned off.

I have a 3g Ipod thats only about 4 months old so I don't think that its a problem relating to it being old.

This topic brings another thought to mind ... has anyone had this problem while using the ipod when hooked up to thier stereo for a long period of time?

I should mention that I do not use the line out of the dock because there is some noise on the line so I turn the volume of the ipod up in order to reduce amplifying amount of noise.
