Hi. I was wondering how well the etymotic headphones work with smaller ears. I noticed today that they only come with one size bud. The next headphones that I were planning to buy are the etymotic 6i isolators. I use a bud size comparable to the smallest size that come with the sony mdr-ex71's. Anyone know if the etymotic buds would fit me? or should I go with the shure e2c or e3c? Thanks.

EDIT: For incorrect sony model nubmber fix.

I'm not sure which Etymotic earphone you were referring to but mine came with 3 pair of flanges and 5 pair of foam ear pieces. I use the flange which should fit smaller ears fine since the outer most piece is very small and you simply insert them until you've got a good seal.

Well, if you want the foamies, smaller ones are avail for the Ety.

The most oft-reported problem isn't the fit. It's the sound.

Many of the complaints regarding a lack of bass with the ER6 have to do with the silicone tips not providing a good seal for all ears. The listener who encounters this problem and posts about it can expect to receive variously polite or condescending replies containing instructions for getting a good seal and, possibly, no replies recognizing that, for some, a good seal with ER6 silicone tips is virtually impossible.

I've never found the ER6 to be uncomfortable or unmusical. I have, however, found that foam worked best for me. And I also caution that people be careful to set safe volumes when listening to Etys in public situations. If you don't believe me, read the warning in the canalphones article stickied to the top o' this festive forum.

I've got the 6s and have found the same thing: the foam works much better then the silicon. I've got pretty small ears, and the foam tips work well for me. I think the bass reproduction is fine.

Note about the silicon tips: they recommend that you "moisten" them prior to insertion. There are about 1000 reasons why I don't want to do that/tell anyone that I do that. The least of which is sticking something wet inside of my ear in Chicago, in the winter.
