Behold, the evil assasin "radio" as managed to kill these unfortunate songs in a cruel manner. "Radio" strikes its victims with too much air time! Aghhh! May they rest in peace...

"The Middle" - Jimmy Eat World

"Superman" - Five for Fighting

"How You Remind Me" - Nickelback

"In Da Club" - 50 Cent

"Be Like That" - 3 Doors Down

Avril Lavigne. I wont mention the two songs as they are two painful to the ear....

How can radio airplay 'spoil' a song you like?

What, do too many people like these songs now? Are they suddenly not cool and exclusive enough for you, now?

I'm sure you'll find something else..........

It's done by the radio playing the song over and over again until you no longer like it.

I always found "Superman" by Five for Fighting too cheesy and maudlin to begin with, so I think it wasnt the radio that killed this one, it was D.O.A. to begin with, IMHO.

As for the other songs, I agree, especially with "The Middle", which i loved when it first came out, especially the video, hehe

Its not that the songs are now not exclusive anymore, its just that overplay and blatant commercialism can kill even the most poignant songs. Just ask the Beatles.

I wont even BEGIN with the classic rock songs that radio has killed through massive overplay, like "Stairway to Heaven" by Led Zep and others. Looks like these radio people (and other geniuses in mass media) have never heard of the word "moderation".

Why are you listening to the radio to begin with? You have the iPod...shut out the shallow outside world!

Ah, but I do not listen to the radio that much. You're right. That is what the iPod is for and CD's.

Of course the radio can ruin a song!

I have had my ipod for a week now and still listen to the radio while driving - (I havent hooked it up yet). The above songs are songs that were not my favorites in any way, they are just songs that have been played over and over and over until their "death". Honestly, after hearing a song so many times you do grow sick of it.

"Kryptonite" - 3 Doors Down

Sorry to say but..."Bring Me to Life" - Evanesence

"I'd Do Anything" - Simple Plan

"Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" - Good Charlette

"21 Questions" - 50 Cent, I still like all his songs but the radio seriously needs to take it easy on this one.

Ah yes. This is why you need to get the CD. I listen to all the other songs, but because of the radio and MTV, I can no longer listen to this song.

Here's a couple:

Alien Antfarm - Smooth Criminal

American HiFi - Flavor of the Weak

Barenaked Ladies - One Week

Various Creed songs (most creed songs were ruined about halfway through the first time I heard them, in my opinion. But even if you like them, you have to admit that some of their songs have been way overdone)

The Spiderman song

This thread has also brought up another interesting question. Which songs are so good that even excessive radio airplay could not ruin them?

For me the song that comes to mind right of the bat is A Thousand Miles by Vanessa Carlton. I'm sure not everyone agrees with me, but even though I've heard this song a million times I still like it, and sing along with it every time it comes on the radio.

I agree with those songs. Especially that infernal spiderman song. (I refering to Hero by Chad Kroger) Man that song was way overplayed. Thousand Miles is a good song but it did get too much air time. I had that song of three of my preset stations at ONE TIME once. That's when it got out of hand.

As for Creed, I still love their tunes, but you can't get around the fact that they are over played.

Ok. These aren't current but they must die!

Radio isn't the only song assasin, alas the wedding D.J. If I ever hear the following at another wedding, just put a gun to my head and pull the trigger...please!

Celebration - Kool & the Gang
Twist & Shout - The Beatles (I know it's the Beatles but this one has got to go!)
Louie Louie - The Kingsman

These 3 are some of the most overplayed songs in history, maybe for good reason, but now there is NO reason to play them anymore as they are permanantly etched into our minds. Wanna hear Twist & Shout? Close your eyes and just push your mental play button...what do ya know...there it is. Aaaaaaaaaggghhh! I played it by accident. :D

Ah, good ol' Twist and Shout. The title describes my reaction to it exactly. Twisting in pain, shouting in agony.

I too have felt the affects of hearing some songs on the radio wayyy too much, but i have found that after awhile the affect wears off. FOR example, I hadnt heard Remind Me by nickelback for a couple of months after it was grossly overplayed, then i heard it months later, and absolutley loved it agian
Same with kryptonite by 3 doors down
Now im gonnna try to not listen to Bring me to life for awhile so that i can like it as much as i did when i first bought the daredevil soundtrack (before the song was even being played on the radio..)

Songs that have been killed by the radio:

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

50 Cent - In Da Club

Evanescence - Bring Me To Life

Nickelback - How You Remind Me

For me these are the songs I most remember absolutely loving when they first came out but eventually getting tired of.

As for a song that is uneffected by the radio:

Linkin Park - In The End

I know most people won't agree, but I've always loved this song and never got tired of it even when it was being played by every station on the planet.

I also agree that this effect can ware off if you don't listen to a song for a while.
