Firstly, I'd like to say hello. This is my first post into these forums so i wanted to say hi.
Anyway now that's over and done with... I'd like a decent recomendation, and what i mean by decent is meaning someone that has owned or at least tried both EX71's and Apple's own ear buds.
Though i'm pretty happy with the stock headphones that came with my ipod, i like the idea of the enclosed sealed units to block out outside sounds.
Has anyone tried both the apples' and EX71's and which have you found superior ?
I briefly tried out some EX71's. against the stock earphones. I immediately noticed a slight decrease in volume... but better bass.
I've tried quite a few other headphones now, including a very expensive pair of B&O's sorry don't know the model no.. so far all have sounded terrible.. only the EX71's sounded decent..
Why is that ? why do most other headphones sound pants with the ipods ? i'd be interested to hear ..
Cheers

Odds are that people here will tell you that it's the EX71s you want. Let's face it, neither Apple nor most other music player manufacturers can afford to ship much past the most basic of earbuds. It would be hard for them to compete with most anything beyond the cheapest of earbuds/headphones.
As far as why most headphones don't sound that great when used with iPods, it's simple: many headphones (and even higher-end earbuds) are dependent upon having a strong amplifier to put the detail into the music. An iPod (or most any digital player) just isn't going to have a strong amp by itself.
There's technically a workaround for that, in that you can get portable headphone amps (such as the Headroom AirHead, at headphone.com) that will enhance the music. But what you really want to do is to get earbuds or headphones that don't depend on an amp to do their work for them... like the EX71s.

Hi iDoc46,
I have both the Apple in-ear and the Sony EX-71's. Its funny coz headphones/earphone are such a personal thing...it's so subjective.
Here's my opinion:
I liked the Apple in-earphones, they sound pretty good, better than
the original Apple earphones...again in my opinion. The problem for
me was the fact, they wouldn't stay in my ears. I tried all the different
size-ear covers and tried all the techniques of puttting them in your ears.
A slight tug on the wire and they would pop out...well, the left one. It was
very fustrating so I purchased the EX-71's.
The sound from the EX's are about the same, maybe a little better, than the Apple in-ear. A little more bass, but very slight...again IMHO. I've had no problems with them slipping out even when working out. I think the
smaller profile fits my ears better.
I don't think you can go wrong with either...but I have to admit, if the Apple in-ears fit perfectly in my ears, I wouldn't get anything else.
Hope this helps!!
Cheers!!!

Hi thanx for this info.
Soundslike there is very little in them. Do the Apple phones come in different sizes like the Sonys ? I admit I like the white / grey look of the apples.
Cheers

Yes, the Apple's come with ear-gaskets too, so you can adjust their size.
The Sony's profile is thinner, which I think fits better in my ear.
You know the Sony's come in white too, you can find them on the Internet.
I got mini at www.minidisco.com. Hope that helps.
Cheers!
