my wife and i just bought a subaru legacy last march, and i got my 4th generation 40GB iPod a few weeks ago. i've borrowed my brother's itrip to see if i'd consider purchasing one for myself, and i must say that i'm not all that impressed with its ease of use nor sound quality.

the car has an in-dash, single disc CD player (don't know exact manufacturer off-hand), so a tape adapter is out of the question. and i have to admit i'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to hard-wiring accessories to a factory stereo system ... trying to install a 10 disc CD changer in my (recently traded-in) jeep liberty was an absolute nightmare.

anywho, can someone give me some suggestions/recommendations for a simple way to hook up my ipod to my car, while providing very good sound quality, and avoiding divorce because of my all-thumbs technical screw-up?
:p

thanks in advance.

Have an '05 Legacy, also without AUX input. I was told the unit is made by Clarion. Searches of their site, the Subaru site, and contacting the dealer have all turned up empty, but the dealer said that the '06s would have a way to connect an iPod. Guess we'll just have to wait and see if it can be retrofitted. I decided to live with the iTrip for now. Push comes to shove, I may get portable speakers like the new ALs and use those for longer trips.

hmmm, maybe i'll have to buy an '06 then. :p or at least see if older models are retro-fitable once subaru has that capability.

thanks for the help, Aceon6.
