After getting my 10 GB iPod and loading the music I currently listen to onto it, I've found I have a ton of space available that I'd love to fill up. I had stopped bying CD's for a while and just listened to the radio, but now I've begun buying them again as I've discover bands I like to listen to. I'm sure there are a lot of other great bands I'm not aware of, so any recommendations would be most apreciated. There are a lot of songs I've heard (some of which I have on my iPod) that I like, but I don't want to buy an album just for one or two songs. I mostly listen to rock and hip-hop.

Albums that I've been listening to lately are:

Linkin Park - Meteora (I have Hybrid Theory and Reanimation too)
Puddle of Mudd - Come Clean
Eminem - The Eminem Show (much better than his second album; haven't heard his first album)
50 Cent - Get Rich or Die Tryin (A lot of songs on it honestly weren't that great though)

Songs I've heard on the radio that I like:
Trapt - Headstrong and Still Frame
Staind - So Far Away (does their whole new album sound like this?)
Cold - Stupid Girl
Papa Roach - Last Resort
Disturbed - Liberate
Nickelback - Someday
Fuel - Falls On Me
3 Days Grace - I Hate Everything About You
Saliva - Your Disease
Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit
Smile Empty Soul - Bottom of a Bottle
Audioslave - Like a Stone and Show Me How To Live
Limp Bizkit - Eat You Alive (I hear the album is offle, but I like this song)
Eve 6 - Think Twice
P.O.D. - Boom, Alive, and Youth of the Nation

I just edited this list to reflect my current taste. Again, thanks for any recommendations you can give me.

Horrorscope. First listen it didn't make much of an impression, but since then I have really grown to like it a lot.

I am curious about Sum 41. What does it compare to?

Staind - Outside and It's been a while (don't know about their knew stuff, need to listen to it more)
Papa Roach - Last Resort
Trapt - Headstrong
Cold - Stupid Girl
P.O.D. - Alive and Youth of the Nation
Unwritten Law - Seein' Red (I usually don't like slow songs, but this one is pretty good)
Nickelback - How you remind me (Before every radio station in the world played it to death)
Nickelback - Too Bad
Theory of a Dead Man - Make Up Your Mind (Sounds exactly like Nickelback)
Smile Empty Soul - Bottom of a Bottle
Sum 41 - Fat Lip
Audioslave - Like a Stone
Jimmy Eat World - The Middle (Again, before it was ruined by the radio stations)

That's all I can think of right now. I'll add more songs as they come to mind. If anyone could recommend any albums either from the abuv list of songs or that are similar, I would really apreciate it. Thanks a lot to anyone who takes the time and effort to answer.

The new Staind album is pretty good.

Also the new Cold album is good.

I think you would really like Chevelle's Wonder What's Next, that is one kickin CD

Audioslave's CD is awesome

A band called At The Drive In. That album is pretty trippy!

The new deftones is good, as well as the new one by radiohead.

The band Fitch isn't all that bad either.

Hope that helps!

I haven't heard a lot of their stuff, but the stuff I have heard has a pop/punk sound sort of like Blink 182 (but much better). The song "Fat Lip" tends to alternate between rapping and singing, but I've heard it's the only song that they've done that has a rap influence.

May I say, Sum41 is horrible(in my oppinion) but if you like Audioslave. You would like the Smashing Pumpkins(even though they broke up December 2nd, 2000 (yes I am a big fan)). I think you probly have heard of them but if you havent check it out. The music rules

HMM interestingly,
I listen to almost all of the same stuff, but my most recommended would be:
Disturbed: The Sickness is AWESOME, and Believe is pretty good to
Staind,: Both their cds ROCK, pretty much all the songs on them
Nickelback: A very good cd, but i would think that there due for a new one pretty soon...
Trapt: a pretty good cd, but ihavnt had the time to listen to that one all that much
Personally, i would stay away from bands like sum 41 and blink 182, but thats probally just cuz i personally can not stand the poser/punk band stuff. (too whinny or whiny or however thats spelled...)

Hmmm, pretty much nu-metal, so i would recommend...

System of a Down, both Toxicity and Steal this Album

Rage Against the Machine, especially the kick arse first album which, pretty much started all this rap-rock craze

For a crash course in grunge, get the following albums: Ten by Pearl Jam, Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins, Core by Stone Temple Pilots, Superunknown by Soundgarden, and of course, the grandaddy of em all, Nevermind by Nirvana

And for an idea of where modern rock pretty much all came from, check out EVERYTHING by the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and the Clash, the 3 most important Rock Bands of all time, IMHO.

Yeah I agree with stonesmurf 22....you listen to exactly the same stuff I do, although I listen to A LOT more, including Irish Reels, Jigs, Russian Techno/Pop, Arabic Dance, etc. But lemme reccomend the following from your specific taste (caution crap loads of bands coming up open your wallet now):

incubus - S.C.I.E.N.C.E., Make Yourself, Warning, hell even Fungus Amongus and Enjoy Incubus
The Red Hot Chili Peppers - you'd probably like Blood Sugar Sex Magik but you'll definitely like Californication
Also as someone else said check out The Smashing Pumpkins
Oh yeah, the Foo Fighters (you can't go wrong with any of their CDs
And System of a Down WOULD be great for you, but you'd probably enjoy Toxicity more than Steal This Album....
Also Nirvana (everyone loves nirvana)

looking through iPod:
12 Stones
Definitely 3 Doors Down - The Better Life, Away From the Sun
The Apex Theory
Authority Zero
You may like Avril Lavigne
Something Corporate
As someone else said Chevelle would be good too
Craig David possibly for your hip hop side...
Oh yeah as someone else said....definitely get Disturbed!
Evanescence!!!!
Everclear (not the drink)
The Exies
You'll Probably like Good Charlotte
Green Day OF COURSE!
Goo Goo Dolls
Hoobastank
INCUBUS ONCE AGAIN....look There's so much more....if you want, go to the website for one of my local radio stations...they play all of this stuff....

http://www.97xonline.com/

go there....you'll pretty much feel at home....

The self-titled album?
are you kidding me?

its so horrible.

first 3 tracks, there's no beat what so ever. Constant high pitched yelling into the microphone. I cant even headbang to it.

Finger Eleven album ( self-titled ) will suit your needs ENTIRELY. they're heavy without being stupid, and they have some slow songs, like 'outside' which are acoustic, very good.

And btw, the dude a few posts up. The clash isnt rock. They're PUNK.

Thanks once again for all of the suggestions. I have a few more questions for anyone willing to answer them.

1. I already own 3 Doors Down's first album, The Better Life. I thought it was a good album, but I guess I forgot to mention it in my original post because I haven't listened to it in a while. How is the new album? Better? Worse? The same?

2. I can't decide which Staind album to get. I am currently leaning towards Break the Cycle since the reviews have said that it has a harder sound where as the new album is more mellow. I love the new single "So Far Away," but I'd also like some head bangers on the disk. I can always get the new album if I like BTC. Is this a good decision?

3. I've liked everything by Good Charlotte that I've heard so far, but I've always gotten very tired of the songs very quickly do to the radio overplay. I know that that happens with every hit song, but I seem to get tired of Good Charlotte's stuff more quickly than other bands. I like the current single, "Girls and Boys," but I'm sure in a couple of weeks I'll be sick of it. How are the non-singles on their album?

Hey I am into the same type of music as well. I am from Canada so I will recommend some Canadian bands as well as others that I love.

Canadian Bands That Rock

I Mother Earth - "Scenery and Fish" is an amazing album; I don't like the new singer they picked up when Edwin left, so this album is pretty old circa 1996. You may have heard "One More Astronaut" I think that one may have hit over the border.

Moist - Moist is pretty awesome I especially like their album "Creature". It was their second album and it is pretty sweet. It has tracks like "Resurrection" and "Tangerine" that totally rock, and they are good in concert too. They have a greatest hits album called "Machine Punch Through" which kind of sums up what they are all about pick it up.

The Tragically Hip - I am not a huge fan of their stuff they've released the last couple albums, but their earlier stuff is awesome. Good old fashion rock band. I recommend "Day for Night" and "Trouble at the Hen House" for albums. For singles "Grace, Too" and "Fire in the Hole"

American Band That Rock

Incubus - I have to second Incubus, all of their stuff is pretty awesome. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is one of my favorites. If you see Final Destination 2, "Vitamin" is playing in the background when the guy who one the lottery get offed, very cool!!! I especially like "A Certain Shade of Green" gets me pumped up when I am driving.

Faith No More - Their stuff is a little more metalish, but they have some solid rock and slower stuff. I am addicted to the album "King for a Day Fool for a Lifetime". They led me into liking Incubus so I have to mention em. "Get Out" and "Caralho Voador" are my favorite songs.

Jerry Cantrell - Ex Alice and Chains guitar player. Very good guitars, and vocals. The album I have is called "Boggy Depot" and it is very good, "Cut You In" is the best song the album in my opinion.

Stone Temple Pilots - One of the early bands in the whole grudge movement. Scott Wailland is the lead singer he has moved on to start a super group with ex GnR members called Velvet Revolver. "Core?, "No.4", "Purple" are all amazing albums. Singles "Sour Girl?, "Vaseline", and "Creep" are all good. If only the guy could keep off the heroin.

Sorry for the long post, I just get caught up; we are all music lovers here right ;)

Mike

I really like the latest 3 Doors Down album, "Away From The Sun".

Last night I picked up "Leave A Whisper" by Shinedown, and "14 Shades Of Grey" by Staind.

Evanescen-Fallen IF u liked bring me to life, or if u liked the second song which hasnt hit mainstream yet but ive seen it a couple of times its called going under then GET this cd. Ill admit i was kinda sceptical when i first thot bout gettin this, but this cd truly was awesome. There were i think 2 softer songs on the cd but other than that it this is an excellent cd especially if youre into new rock and would like a nice litle change of pace.

I just edited my original post to include some new songs that I really like. I also took out some old ones that I didn't really like anymore.

I don't understand why some people seem to be so obsessed with Evanescence. I mean, one of my friends has listened to nothing but that CD ever since he got it last spring. I like the two singles and what I've heard from the rest of the disk, but I could never see myself listening to it so much. Is it really that good?

Again, I apreciate the suggestions. Thanks.

As has been said, you should really check out the Smashing Pumpkins. I would try out their greatest hits album, so that you can get a pretty good taste of all their work from all their albums. My personal favorite of theirs is Siamese Dream.
And in regards to Disturbed, I found the Sickness to be a much better album than Believe. Just my two cents.

After all the recommendations from people on this board and after listening to one of my friends constantly talk about how great they are, I decided to buy Evanescence's album. I would have burned it, but my friend doesn't have a working CD burner and he won't even let anyone borrow it - not even just for a day! I was sceptical about buying it for a while because of some rather misleading reviews, but I'm very happy that I bought it and only regret not doing it sooner. If you listen to the same stuff I do and like either of the two singles, you'll love the album. Thanks to all the people who recommended it to me.

I'll second Seether also you might want to try some others like:

The Ataris
The White Stripes
AFI
Finch
Flickerstick
Diffuser
Our Lady Peace
Switchfoot
Zwan(If you like the SP'kins)
The Nixsons
Default

Most of these I think would be I good type of stuff you might like, A lot of these are main stream, I don't listen to the radio that much anymore, so not sure if you can hear them on the radio or MTV

I agree with alot of the suggestions. Let me throw in the latest Matchbox 20 CD "More Than You Think You Are"

It's a little more mainstream than some on your list, but I love it and I listen to alot of the same stuff you do too. That Puddle of Mudd "Come Clean" is right up there as one of my fav's too.

You should get Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous, the Anthem, and Boys and Girls by Good Charlotte. Also you'd probably like Adam's Song and All the Small Things by Blink 182.
