Well, I just got a pair of E2c's (thread about them above yours i think) and they sound great, there's plenty of bass. From what I've gathered though, the Etymotic ER-6's are more 'analytical' and 'accurate'. That sounds like they would have more "accurate" bass (read: less than Shure's) but the bass would probably be tighter sounding. Also, the highs would be a little more accentuated and cleaner as well. But from all the trance/techno i've fed through my Shures (and I listen to ALOT. 80-90% of my library is trance/techno, the rest are mellow Hip-Hop [NOT RAP] and like one or two alternative songs) the bass is very good. And it's pretty balanced for techno. Although I think the highs could use a little work. (I think it would be best suited for Rock, but only by a small margin.)
So...hope that helps. Anyone else, you see anything wrong with that, feel free to yell/scream/cuss me out and/or correct me. :D

hrm...i am more pushed to the ety`s i dunno why i think its coz they look nicer lol...thing is tho, if i had both pairs and i listed to the same song with both pairs would i really be able to tell any kinda of difference??
i think either way im gonna have a pretty good pair of earphones....
and surely your earphones can only make the best of how u have ripped the tune?
dunno if this will make any difference but all my tunes are gonna be ripped from vinyls (??)
someone convince me either way! :)

There will be a significant difference in sound between the Ety ER6 and the Shure E2. It's not that one is necessarily "better" than the other, but the fact that their sound signatures are completely different. If you search the forum, you'll find plenty of comparisons. In short, though, the Etys have a sound signature geared towards detail, while the Shures are fuller and warmer.
As a result, many people feel the ER6 lacks warmth and lacks bass, while many people feel that the E2 is muddy. I've never heard an MP3 ripped from vinyl, but if it's already warmer than a CD-rip, the ER6 might be a better choice.
That being said, if you're looking for bass, the ER6 will probably not satisfy you at all. If I were you, I'd wait a few more weeks and see what people say about the ER6i, which is supposedly designed with the iPod in mind and will have some extra bass.
But these are definitely very different earphones and you should investigate them more closely before you make a decision. In addition to this forum, check out www.head-fi.org.

Good advice. IMHO earphones/headphones/speakers should not be judged on the source material unless that particular source material is the only source material they're going to be played on. An earphone/headphone/speaker should only accurately reproduce the music driving it, not change or color it. What I'm saying is that you either like or don't like the way the music sounds on the source the earphone shouldn 't change it. From many discussions on the forums Etys are often described as "bass shy". Are they? Or are they simply not providing the amount of bass people want , even though they're accurately reproducing the music?
Is the Shure which are described as having more bass the more accurate or simply provide the bass some people prefer. It will come down to personal preference but I'm recommending accuracy and enjoy the music as written and intended. My 2 cents.
