I have done it, and find no problems, as it's just a dual boot, so Apple loads normally, but if I want to test or play with Linux, I reboot, and hold down backwards to get into it. And no matter what, i can always reset and go back to apple whenever I want :)

I personally hope that it gets better and becomes better than the Apple firmware one day.

Well it's not hard to do, and it doesn't affect Apple. You only get more features so why not!

Here is a link to the windows installer:

do you lose all your songs?

No you lost nothing, just adds functionality to use Linux instead when you reset your iPod and hold down reqind while loading (reset is like resetting a computer, hold menu + pla/pause for abotu 10 seconds to do that). Reset again and it will go back to normal apple!
