I just got a pair of the noise cancelling headphones of target via their new ipod section, and i think that their design is flawed.

First off, the noise cancelling device has a heavy in-line control that holds the included AAA battery, and has a on/off switch with a red LED that displays wheather it is on or off. it also has a belt clip on it. the chord length from the headphones to the swich is way to short. I'm normal sized, and the 2x1 inch box doesn't make it to my belt. the chord from the box to the jack is way to long (hanging down to my knees.)

The headphones are fit to provide the best noise cancelling, but because they are not full ear cups, they squeeze to your head. (although i admit i have a huge head). The sound quality is very good, and it is even better with the noise cancelling enabled. The bass improves drastically, and the sound is crisp and clear. At least, it was, untill i tested them on the bus home.

The way they work is to measure the ambiant noise with small microphones on the outside of them. unfortunately, they don't keep up with sudden changes in whats going on around you. everytime the bus hit a bump, the music would appear to skip as the headphones tried (and failed) to compensate for the change in outside sound.

althought the sound quality is excellent, the disign isn't very good for day to day usage. These would be a great headphone for airports and airplane rides. in that aspect they would be a good inexpensive alternative to bose headphones, but not good for any changing sound environment, or active use.

oh yeah, the cost $50.
