They are removable, but really the remote isn't the greatest. The whole point of a Remote is to have complete control of your device from your hand without having to look at the device. Sicne there is no LCD on the Remote you really can't knwo what song is coming up next, causing you to look at the iPod, rendering the remote useless. Now this is what a remote should look like for a Digital Audio Player:

That's iRiver's and they have it dead on. It's sleek and it gets the job done with a nice readable LCD on it. Hopefully Apple may make a new remote one day...

Yeah, they definitely should. The LCD is the only thing holding me and many other back.

i actually have one but don't really use one cause it makes the cord too long...

I love my remote. I don't think it needs to control everything, just the basics. I also don't care what song is next I just skip it if I don't feel like listening to it. With the iPod tucked away in a safe place the remote really helps with all aspects of my listening habbits. Just an opinion :D

If apple could make a remote with an lcd screen that was no larger then the remote now used, I would buy that. That remote for the IRiver is WAY too big and cumbersome.

I just want a remote exactly like the apple remote, that's completely wireless.

Like the RemoteRemote2. That thing looks bi*chin...

I'll second the idea that the current wired remote is just fine.

I'll set up a quick playlist or something, put the iPod away, and just sit back & listen. I don't need full control -- all I need is volume and next/previous track.

If I really want to take more control, it's not difficult to pull the iPod back out. Besides, the iPod's screen is a better size for browsing than a one- or two-line LCD on a remote.

I love my remote. Especially when I'm downtown, and don't want to pull out my ipod, I can use the remote. It's one of the reasons I bought the 20 gig instead of 15.

A full-blown lcd remote is overkill. They add to the weight that your headphones (and ears) are supporting. And they are more prone to breakage since the screen is dangling around. Also I think that the battery drainage would be much worse, especially if the remote is backlit.

How long is the cord on this thing?

Since I like to keep the iPod in my pocket while walking around and stuff, the wire on the earphones I have is already a little long. I don't want it hanging down around my knees...

do wat i do i stuff all the cord in my pocket with my iPod and leave enough out for the headphones to reach my head.

Obviously, I do that now.

But how will that help me at all if I've got the remote at the end of the wire? Might as well not have one if it's going to be in my pocket right along side the iPod....don't you think?
