Hello everyone,

I just purchased my 4G iPod last week, I am very happy with it, however the headphones that apple supplied me are not so good for hip-hop/rap songs that give me that "sick bass" I love.

Anyway, I'm looking for new phones for my iPod. I don't like in-ear phones, so I'd like to go with DJ style ones. But I have no clue which ones to buy. Do they use up battery more, especially connected to my iPod?? Do they have better bass than in-ear phones?

Does anyone use the DJ-style phones with their iPod?? I like the look of the sony one's but I heard they are not so good.

Any suggestions/posts are greatly appreciated

Thanks

My suggestion sonys MDR-G57 these are great for my kindof music (rock-Sorry i hate rap) but thats just my opinion These are great for they're size. And best of all, They make you look cool! They kindof hurt your ears after a while but ive found out that the Clips are removable. But whatever you buy dont get apple so called "great" in-ear earbuds. Theyre anything but good.

First, headphones won't effect battery performance. Second, there are a couple phones I would recommend but I just recently bought a pair of Koss td-61s. They are 20 bucks and are the most comfortable phones I've EVER used, plus they don't sound to bad either. Just a FYI the ear buds they come with really suck. But the phones are decent. Im actually content after spending several hundred dollars on serveral phones. Of course this is just my opinon but I really enjoy these phones. Hope this helps.:D

I find the Sony MDR-V700DJ to be quite good with a 3G iPod. It kind of irons out the 'flatness' (flat in a simultaneously good and bad way... i.e. neutral in a hi-fi way yet also a bit boring) of the iPod's unEQ'd sound to make it a lot more entertaining. The V500 sucks, the others I don't know about. The 700's pretty heavy though, and it's got a large plug which can put inreased pressure on headphone sockets given the stresses of portable use. However, it'll definitely give you bass. Some say it'll not do low bass, and for technical purposes it doesn't (it can't really do 20hz) but for the purposes of music listening rather than being a sad geek with a frequency test CD, it provides bags of low end.

The Sennheiser HD25-1 is the DJ style phone I'd recommend the most. It's lightweight, highly isolating, very durable and sounds very good. But at around the $200 mark, it may be out of your range. If you can afford it, I'd recommend you skip any other similar phone and go straight to the HD25-1.

Another option is the Sony MDR-V6 (AKA MDR-7506) which would be cheaper. It's a folding studio phone which nevertheless you see a lot of DJ's using. Not as good as the HD25-1, better than the V700 in terms of sound accuracy (if not 'entertainment') and about $70 where you can find one.

First, headphones won't effect battery performance.

ur wrong. while headphones arent neccessarily powered, the higher (or lower i forget) the impedence is, the more you need to turn up the volume to hear better. headphones with low impedence (like the shure e2s) will allow for you to hear more clearly at lower volumes than say a headphone with high impedence (couldnt tell you one cuz i only use the e2 and sony v6). as to dj like headphones i belive the v7000s are good, but again, i couldnt tell you cuz i dont use em

Well icec0ld, I hate to tell you, but headphones do not DIRECTLY affect battery performance. You even explained it yourself.

If you headphones suck, and you need to TURN THE VOLUME UP, that's what affects the battery life. Not the headphones themselves.

I would suggest that you go and have a look at www.head-fi.org this website is very infromative and the members are very learned in regard to audio equipment.

I ended up getting the Audio Technica ATH FC7's they are good, very good, they arrived last week so after some burn in time they should be perfect.

I was conducitng the very same search as you and these were the front runners

Sony V6's as mentioned before
Senn's 280 Pro
Audio Technica ATH 500
Beyerdinamics 231
Senn's 212
Koss PortaPros
Grados SR60 these would have been my second choice
and the AT ATH FC7's which finally purchased

I was looking for DJ stylee headphones that didnt leak to much sound as I wanted to use them on my way to work, with good sound reproduction but didnt look like I had breakfast cereal bowls over my ears.

My budget was not $80 - ??60 MAX approx

All the above headphones will not affet the battery life !

They will work off 35 ohms or there abouts and you will not have to turn up the volume as the sensitivity of the phones are high.

Read all about it on Head fi..... unless this makes sense to you already, it didnt to me that for sure.

Happy Hunitng

The Grado sr60's or sr80's are very good open air phones for the price ($60 and $90 or so). But keep in mind, because of their open air design, your neighbors on the bus or train might be upset if you really "crank" your tunes.

The sr80's kinda push the threshold on how muck phone the iPod can push, so volume will always have to be up, and battery life will be shorter.

These babies are made in Brooklyn, need I say anything else.

I agree with Will F, check out another good Headphone resource...HeadRoom (http://headroom.headphone.com/layout.php), its another website that has a lot of reviews and input from users on Headphones.

I have the Sennheiser HD280 Pro, and it is some of the best sound I have ever heard. Seriously, you want to check these out. They were $80 USD and worth every cent. I've listened to a pair of my friends Sony MDVR-500's and I must say it was nothing compared to the Sennheisers. Sony sound to me is very Tin-like, a high pitches metal sound mixed in there. I was also looking at the Bose TriPort Headphones, and they were better sounding that the Sony's. Still, they couldn't match the sound and bass quality in the Sennheisers.

My advice, go with the Sennheisers. You can't go wrong.

I would suggest you try the Bose TRI-Ports. I have a pair of them and I like them very much. They are light enough to carry around and sound great, even with rap/hip-hop music. In fact, if you have an Apple Store in your area, they sell them there, so you can try them on an iPod.
