Ah, help please. wont recognise

Ok , so ive searched the FAQ's...and old posts.

I have a 3g 15 gig ipod and win xp home. I only have usb 1.1 .
when i first got my ipod it worked fine, i have transferd about 2 gigs worth of music, and now it wont recognize it.

ill plug in the usb and the pop box on the task bar doesnt show up. itunes wont see it either.

what do i have to do to make it work? re-install? should i break down and buy a fire wire card? if so...what kind?

please help a ipod newbie.

I'm having the same problem, except I am using a firewire port. I have tried everything on that faq page, I've tried other cables, other computers, nothing works. Other ipods work on my computer with the same cable I use, so it's definitely my ipod... now what?
