I got home charged it, then I installed the software ... seemed to go good.... then I try to put mp3's on it with itunes ... it will freeze (after it puts a couple songs on) the ipod on the "do not dissconnect" screen .... same thing happens with with ephpod(sp?), then I have to reboot the ipod and the same thing happens again, I tried to "reformat" the ipod using the updater ... it works find but still freezes when transfering mp3's. Windows xp does recognise my ipod everytime I plug it in ...I need help, and im pretty good with computers (I built the one im using)......so I thought........

What kind of hardware interface are you using? USB2? Firewire?

I ask because some PC Firewire cards are less than reliable with the iPod.

If you have USB 2.0, the speed is just about the same.

Well, I'm glad you're happy with USB2. But for the record,

"There is a known incompatibility with 4g iPods and Firewire cards using the VIA chipset. Apple is aware of the problem and is working to supply a fix to its customers."
