Ipod for win98SE and 2000 help

I have a Windows 98 Se PC with USB 1.1

Would I be able to install Ipod? I don't have firewire and I am not really interested in speed at the moment.

I will be getting a new PC with windows 2000 with a USB 2. Would this work?

Yes that will work with the iPod. Windows 2000 and service pack 4.

It will work on 2000 even with Itunes, would I need to get a firewire? Also i heard that if you have a song on the Ipod and you delete from the PC, when you connect it back to the PC, the song will delete of the Ipod?
