Allthoug I have not tried to use any ipod with win98 the Apple site clearly states the hardware requirments to run the Ipod and 98 is not listed. I would be supprised if it did. To my knowlege 98 and usb were pretty shakey on the whole. Thi smay not be the case but in any even Apple makes no clainms about 98 support.

I would recomend upgrading to xp anyway as you will gain alot of functionality and interoperability with current resources.

good luck.

Can't swear that W98se and the 4G machine are compatible,( I'd be very surprised if they aren't ) but don't knock the OS. XP is the most wasteful, resource-hungry OS on the face of the earth. W98se and EphPod 2.58 or AnaPod Explorer are nearly flawlees in use. Just ask me!

It's compatible. USB protocol doesn't depend on OS, it's the same on Unix, Mac, Linux, Lindows and so on. So it will work as long as OS supports it. 98SE had problems with iPod, since it was incorrectly reported as hard drive, so a little patch required.
