Ipod to computer

I was reading in the 'tips and tricks' that it was seemingly possible to transfer songs from ipod to computer (dont steal music)......Does this work, and how difficult is it? Does it matter if your running on windows XP with a 3rd generation ipod?

the reason is i'm buying a new computer and dont want to load 651 cd's in to it.

Yes it works. You can do it with ephpod, Xplay, or Media Center 9 (my personal favorite). I have windows XP and a gen3 ipod...

its is very easy, if you use ephpod. select the songs you want to move from the ipod to your comp, and click on the "copy to directory" menu item

so, then you will have the songs ON your computer......If i wanted to listen to them on my computer itwould be possible?
