Hi,
I'm purchasing an iPod, but I'm not sure weather to get a 15 or 20.
The basic difference (besides size :p, but 15 is enough) as far as I can see is that the 20 has the sock.
The question is- what does having the dock give me?
Mind I'm on a PC and not Mac.
Thanks.
I use the iPod at work, set up in the dock with power cable hooked in. The line out powers my computer speakers. Very handy. The line out on the dock is better quality than the headphone out.

There are two products that give you a "line out" the Apple dock and the "pocketdock" (forgot by whom but you can find it on this site). If you want your ipod to live at a stero system and not a computer, then I would highly recomend. Also the dock keeps the iPod for laying on a hard surface, and I think using a dock reduces the chances for scratching. Boy is it easy to scratch an iPod.
The dock is by all means not necessary. And many cases will not allow you to use a dock without removing it. So you might want to analize your case needs (and I highly recomend a case of some sort) before your invest in the dock.

The dock has:
1)a connection for the charger
2)a audio-out plug
what else?
Can the USB ipod cable be connected to the iPod its self, or just the dock?

The case is simple a fabric slip bag and a flexible nylon case with a belt clip. Pictures on the website under ipod acessories. You also get a wired remote with the 20GB which I personally think is really worth having. In all you're getting $90 of acessories (case $30, dock $30 and remote $30) for only another $50. think about it.
