I have an 2nd gen ipod and an Adaptec Duo Connect Firewire/USB2 card, win xp, on a 3yr old Dell 4100. I got the ipod in May, installed the Duo Connect and the ipod connected just fine for maybe 2 days. Then when I connected it, it would be fine for about 45 seconds, but then it "disappears" from the computer and is no longer recognized. The ipod shows only the Apple logo. I pulled out the Duo Connect, uninstalled it's drivers and all the ipod stuff, then reinstalled everything, and everything worked just fine, untill last night when it started happening again. I have just tried uninstalling the drivers for the Duo Connect and reinstalling but that did nothing but waste my time. Oh, I am using ephPod instead of MM, in case that helps.

Any ideas?

Try uninstalling iPod manager if you have it installed. That POS can cause these types of problems.

When you unisntall the card, are you just "uninstalling" it in Device Manager? If not, try that, then reboot and let windows do its thing.

Ok, I got it working *for now* at least. First I downloaded the newest update for my iPod, and magically the thing stayed connected just barely long enough for it to work. It didn't fix the problem. Then I uninstalled the firewire card both in the computer box and in device manager, then reinstalled it in the next slot. Windows found it and installed the driver. Didn't work. I attempted to "update driver" (for firewire) in control panel but it kept hanging on me, so I did it in safe mode. There was a choice of 2 available drivers, one was the one I was already using so I chose the other. It worked! Knock on wood...
