Now, I heard that the Ipod cannot charge cannot be charged with USB.. is this true? I'm planning to get the 20GB so it inculdes the dock too. I know it inculdes the firewire cable, but my computer does not have a firewire port to it. and I don't want spend any more money, so getting a firewire port is out of the question. Can you guys help me out and guide me to iway? :D thanks :)

Razorwing, welcome to iPodLounge. I have the same iPod, and I highly recommend it. You should buy a USB 2.0 cord. You can also buy a SiK product that will do what you're looking for.

The ipod comes with everything u need to charge it right in the box. You will understand when you get it. But you will have to get a usb/firewire cable to hook ur ipod to your computer if u dont have a firewire card on your computer.
here is the link for the usb/firewire cable

ok ok.
You need the usb 2.0 cable to just transfer your music to the ipod ok.......You have a firewire and an adaptor under the dock in the ipod box. There is a spot where you plug the firewire in to the adaptor and the other end into the ipod. plug the adaptor simply into the wall and the ipod will begin charging!! simple as that

the box for the ipod is really small, its a cube and it should be able to fit in your suitcaise, if not just take the outer part out and lay it flat so its a rectangle. the usb will have two cords attached to the part where you plug it into the bottom of the ipod, one is a firewire connection and the other is the usb connection. the usb goes into your computer and the firewire goes into the power box supplied with your ipod. going to japan you will need the apple worl travel adapter kit which give you adapters for your ipod power box thingy availible at the apple website. usb does not charge, thats why they gave you the firewire cable all integrated into the same plug for the ipod so you can charge and sync at the same time while using usb.

no, but my question is that the adaptor is different in Japan and in Canada. I do not have the Ipod. I'm getting it FROM Japan. I'm assuming that they are selling it there and the adaptors which come with the Ipod will be compatible only with Japan outlets. The Thing I'm afraid of is the power outlet to be different and I can't plug the adaptor here in Canada when I come back.

The iPod power adapter can take different plugs for different country's formats. You'll probably have to buy a kit of adapters from Apple. That's an additional cost- look it up on Apple.com for the price.
But then I don't know anything about Japanese or Canadian power outlets, so they may match!

I don't know where you are from, but buying it outside of your country isn't the best way to gamble with your gadgets.
Most countries use different outlets and voltage. I believe it is 220V in Japan, and here in US it is 110V.
All you have to do is buy the kit for different outlets, which is about $40. Why not buy it in your native country to save all the trouble?
Also, your confusion regarding the cable.
The supplied Firewire cable is used to sync your ipod with your PC, but it also fits on the power adapter to be used as a power cable. I wasn't sure whether you got this point, because it can be confusing for some without actually seeing what is in the box.
Also, don't you have to pay tariff on your electronics and declare it at the customs? It has been a while since I traveled outside US, but certain items need to be declared and tariffs imposed on those items.

So what you're saying is I should get it in Canada? but think man, it's $100CAD off plus I think I can buy through Customs.. I can be listening to it.. hehehe.. does that work???

I strongly suggest you purchase the iPod from a local source to save yourself from these worries.

1. Regarding voltage, Japan is also 110V. Anyway the (standard) charger is rated 110-240V. You should only need to change the physical plug.
Another issue - interface language !
In my experience with other products - it is often/sometimes possible to either buy an English version even in Japan, (usually at a higher cost than local version), or to download a system update/change.
You should check out what is possible / what you are capable and or willing to mess around with and if its wort the proce difference (if any).

Buy it in Canada. I just returned from Japan and the pricing is much higher there, especially after the currency conversion. If you want to be thrifty, purchase one from the US and have the sender mark the package "gift." This will typically circumvent Canadian duty.
P.S. The voltage in Japan is 100v, actually a bit less than in the US and Canada.
Good luck!
