ipod crashing computer

I've had my ipod for about a year now, and I've loved every second of it. Lately, or, for the past week, I've plugged in my ipod to find that it freezes and crashes my computer. The ipod is still fully functional outside of the computer (I tested the ipod on my sisters firewire, and the same thing happened).

So, what can I do?
