Hello,

I have purchased an iPod recently. It's the 3G 10GB version.
If I plug it into my FireWire PCI card, the iPod starts charging but
Windows XP doesn't do anything, it doesn't recognise the iPod at all.

Also iTunes, XPlay and the Updaters don't recognise it, they say: "iPod not plugged in", while I'm sure it is plugged in because it charges...

I've done lots of research on google and noticed that alot of people have this problem, however I didn't manage to find a solution so far.

Please help me out. If I find a solution for this I will make a webpage about it so that everyone will be able to solve this problem.

Regards,
Ryzer

The iPod is fairly picky about which firewire cards it will work with. Check out the recommended cards from Apple here (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93405). I'd get one of these. I use the Adaptec 4300 and it's worked flawlessly.

I have an IBM FireWire card with a Texas Instruments chipset ...
I bought it specially for my iPod :(
Are you sure this is the problem?

No, I'm not sure this is the problem. It's just one possibility. If you just bought it, you should be able to return it and get a different one without much trouble (unless you mail ordered it in which case it's a bit more difficult to return). If you mail ordered it, I'd suggest running out to a local store (Best Buy, CompUSA, etc.) and buying one of the recommended cards. Be sure it buy it from a place where you know you can easily return it. Then, try it out and if it works you know that's the problem. If not, you can return it and know that's not the problem.

Well, I bought an USB/FireWire cable (the dock connector cable) and USB worked fine, it installed everything. Then later on I tried that same cable on the FireWire and it also worked. Strange :s But it works now, cost me $20 but it works :)

Hmm...perhaps your original firewire cable is bad.

I had identical problem. I don't know what was the problem, because I went to shop and received new iPod. The new one is working fine.
I suggest doing the same
