ok

1) You can use the belkin usb cable, it does the same thing as the apple one!

2) If you have a dock you should keep the firewire for charging, you plug the firewire in the the adaptor and plug the adaptor into the wall for charging, simple as that.

Sheesh, you're confusing the poor guy.

Marc -- you can charge an ipod in a variety of ways...

(1) Use the included AC power brick.

(2) Plug the iPod into a computer with a powered Firewire port

(3) only with the Mini plug it into a USB port.

If you buy the USB2.0 combo cable it has the wide connector on one end and two wires -- one has a USB connector the other has a firewire connector. You can use the USB connector by itself, but if you want to also charge you connect the firewire end to the socket on the AC power brick.

I think this is all in the FAQ, have you checked there?

afalconsvick, you are certainly confusing this guy. You do NOT need firewire on your PC to charge your iPod. However, you DO have to use a firewire cable to charge your iPod. You can either connect the firewire cable to a powered firewire port on your PC to charge OR you can plug it into the AC adapter that comes with your iPod to charge.

So, iPod Marc, I'm assuming you don't have a firewire port on your PC since you want to use the USB cable. Just do as Lew said. The USB cable has two connectors on it. One USB and one Firewire. Connect the USB connector to your PC for syncing purposes and connect the Firewire connector to your iPod's AC adapter to charge it. You can have both connected at the same time so you can charge and sync at the same time. Or, you can use one of the other (charge only or sync only).
