So im getting my iPod in 3 days, whats all this about USB 2.0 and firewire..

Its really worrying me because once i finally get my iPod, after so long waiting! i have to worry if it will work or not. I know this has been asked alot but somebody please explain to me why i need these certain things.

I have two USB slots in my pc, whether they are USB 2.0? i do not know, how can i find out?

and as far as i know i do not have a firewire slot.


I have a packard bell pentium 2 computer running windows XP.

i have had mp3 players in the past and havent had a problem with it.

You can look in the user's manual that comes with your computer and it will say somewhere what kind of usb ports you have, if worst comes to worst you could use a usb 1.1 no matter so you shouldnt have any problems.

You can check if you have a firewire port by going to Control Pannel < System < Hardware < Device Manager, then look for IEEE 1394. Or you could pull out your computer and look for it that way.

If your computer is that old, then it's probably USB 1.1, which works with the iPod, but is slow for transfering files. So you have 2 options: 1. Use the USB 1.1, which will be slow, but it will work. If you have not done so already, you will have to buy a USB 2.0 cable from apple.com
2. Buy a firewire card at your local electronics store and install it into your computer, and you won't need to buy any extra cables, as the iPod comes with a firewire cable.
