I visited an electronics store and went to the Apple section. I asked the sales rep to tell me about the ipod and he said that only mac files could be stored on the ipod. I was very interested in the ipod until then, but i want to verify that what he said is true. Is it? I want to store files like word, flash files, game files...etc. Can it be done? :(

Completely false! I have a G3 and can store any type of file I want. I have even stored mac and PC files right next to each other. When you first get your iPod you have to format it. Whichever OS you use to format it will determine it's primary OS. I use windows mainly so that is what I chose and iTunes and my iPod work perfectly. When I take it over to my friedns house (who has a Powerbook) it just shows up as an external HD, none of the nifty iTunes stuff will work right, but you can drag and drop files onto and off of the drive.

I've had no problem backing up Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Quickbooks and other files on my iPod. I use a Windows XP operating system.

Focus on the fact that the ipod is first of all a, external hard drive.

So, if you use the windows explorer, it'll be considered as so.

But don't drag and drop mp3s this way as they won't be played.
You must use itunes or ephpod to transfer music.

This guy at the store is a fool!
