My 2nd Gen iPod, that's been working flawlessly for a couple of years, has started randomly resetting itself while playing music.
I initially thought it was a corrupted playlist, but after recreating the playlist, it still resets itself.
I've run Windows SCANDISK, doing a thorough surface scan, but no errors are reported. I tried running Partition Magic, but it doesn't see the iPod (strange!) even though it does see my other FireWire external drives.
In Windows' Disk Management application, the iPod is shown as having one 39MB "unallocated" partition, and a second 19GB partition. I assume the first partition is where the firmware is stored, and the second partition holds the MP3 files. If I delete both partitions, recreate a new FAT32 partition and do a full scandisk scan, will the IPod Updater recreate the necessary file system?
Are there any other tools I can use to try to track the problem down?
Any other suggestions?
