Info on possible car set-up please

Hello guys, I don?t really know that much about the iPod apart from what I have read so far on this site (some great info here).
I am very interested in buying an iPod but only if this can be done:

I haven?t got a clue about car electronics so what I would like to know is can I ditch my CD player/head unit completely from my 300ZX and wire up an iPod for listening to music?
I don?t want to use it in conjunction with my existing stereo; can I replace it and use the iPod only?

If I can then what would I need to buy to enable me to do this? If not then i would rather upgrade my head unit to play MP3s. What other options are there?

Unfortunatly your going to have to have some kind of head unit to get your ipod to play through your car's stereo. You could always geta a very cheap one that has line in. I suppose technically you could bypass the audio wiring in your car, but you would have to wire the ipod directly to the speakers, but even then you would have to do some serious ghetto rigging. I suggest getting a cd player that has line in and then directly connecting your ipod to it.
