I am looking at buying some Etymotic ear pieces. The company web site states that the 4p is for mp3 players and implies that the 4s would need an external amplifier if they were used with the ipod. On an earlier post, one person recommended getting the 4s for various reasons. Any other imput out there on the 4s versus the 4p for the ipod? Thanks.

Get the 4P - you can convert it to a 4S with the addition of a cable with 70ohm resistance.

Mr Peddler are you implying that Mr Orthopod may find he is happy with a straight 4P. I have a Euro volume capped Ipod so i think i want the maximum sensitivity of a 4P.

I suspect that even a capped Ipod will drive the 4P really loud - they are one of the most sensitive headphones on the market - as well as sounding like one of the best.

Hello,
I use the ER4P's in the iPod, and I wouldn't wish the loudest volume setting on anyone. It will blow your drums.
I recommend getting the ER4P's, and, while at home, using an amp and the 4S conversion cable. I purchased all three of these items (ER4P, the 4S conversion cable, and the Total Bithead amp) from www.headphone.com, whom I highly recommend. They have excellent service, very prompt and great prices.
