Hi,
Firstly I apologise if this has been debated ad infinitum in the past. I did a search and couldn't find anything relevant.

I am looking for a PCI firewire card which is compatible with the iPod. It should be capable of charging the iPod too (ie. powered).

What makes of card have you guys had success with?

Thanks in advance,
Dave.

Im using a cheap 3port STLabs firewire card.
I got the recommendation from the Ephpod website (they list a couple of cards that are compatible).

Go HERE (http://www.ephpod.com/faq.html).

I got mine at Amazon.co.uk. Works a treat with WindowsXP without any need for additional drivers.

I got an Adaptec Duoconnct USB2.0/Firewire. This card has worked flawless with my system. I suggest you look into Adaptec Firwire cards. I purchased my card off ebay for a fraction of the retail price.

I'm using a 3-port card made by SIIG ($40 at Best Buy). Works great.

STAY AWAY FROM SOUNDBLASTER/AUDIGY.

Adaptec 4300 is what I used!

I got mine for 5$ off ebay. It's a 2+1 port controller with NEC chipset and works really fine. It allows charging of the iPod (just like other more expensive controllers) and I didn't even need to supply drivers for my Windows XP box.
Be sure to get a OHCI compliant card and you'll be fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. It's good to get first hand advice! I'm inclined to go for the adaptec, although if a cheaper card will suffice I might just go with one of them instead... I'll make up my mind tomorrow.

I'm using WinXP with a 15GB. I had a Belkin F5U501, could not get it to work. I returned it, bought a Belkin F5U503-APL (their newest I think), says 'Perfect for iPods' right on the package, has three FW ports, works perfect, $35 at BestBuy. Was going to buy an Adaptec 4300, but much more expensive. Good luck...

Zammmmn... All I could find at bestbuy is Belkin 5U512-APL. It also has the wording "Perfect for iPod" too and 3 firewire ports. BUT... it costed me 50 bucks:mad: I wished they have the $35 one.

This was the best deal i found among best buy, circuit-city and compusa, of course, there are better deals online, but they are about the same when adding shipping.

I have an older Belkin F5U503 ($40 Best Buy) on one computer with WinXP and it works great with my 20GB.

No drivers were needed for the Belkin either (in WinXP anyway). It installed and talked to my iPod without a hitch.

I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for firewire & USB 2.0 combo PCMCI cards since I want to link my new ipod to a 6 pin firewire on my laptop so I can charge while I?m transferring tracks etc. The 4 pin firewire on my laptop currently does not provide power. Thx for any suggestions!
