Hi, I just bought a used ipod. It is a first generation ipod. I am trying to get it to work in my car. Every car kit is made for the 3G ipods that use the dock connector. Today I went to Best Buy and just bought a cassette adapter and it works great but the problem still is how do I keep it powered for when I am in the car for long trips? I saw this device on ebay that goes in the cigerette lighter spot and the end of it has a firewire port so I would just take a firewire cable and plug it into the cigarette adapter end and the other end of the firewire cable would go into the ipod. But when I plug my firewire cable on my computer into my ipod it charges it but I can't listen to it while it is hooked up to the firewire cable. So this leads me to believe if I buy this adapter for the car, I won't be able to listen to the ipod while it is charging. Is this true? What has other people done to keep a 1G ipod charged while in a car?

It won't go into sync/charging mode when plugged into the car, it just charges.
