I am interested in Airtunes, When I have a party I want to be able to take music from my PC and play it on my living room stereo, the stereo hooked to my PC and a pair of powered speakers on my back deck. Can this be done? I have seen comments that it will only play on one set of speakers at a time, but I can't believe they would cripple a product to that degree. If I bought an 2 Airport express could I play music through 2 sets of remote speakers simultaneously..
Thanks
Bill

*BUMP*

Yeah, does anyone know if this can be done? It seems stupid if it can't. I have 6 expresses running through my house....

I am not sure if you can name two different AE's as the same name or if that would even work. I only have one. Your powered speakers need an audio input, so how will you be hooking that up? With some sort of speaker distribution device hooked up, you should be able to do anything.

Call Apple and ask.

the point is...there isn't a way to play music from itunes out from ALL locations (or technically, all networked Airport Express 'audio outs') simultaneously, which doesn't make sense because it is something everyone wants to do at a party. As now, limited to only one output, you're forced to choose only one set of speakers, which blows if you have a large space. Airport Express routers seems to be technically capable of doing this, so it seems like a complete software block from Apple. Anyone know the progress on this glaring issue?

Ok, here is my set up:

Pool room: Philips Streamim connected to LCD stremaing music videos with audio being played through the LCD.

Apple express to extend the range of my network and run audio from iTunes when i don't want to watch music videos when playing pool.

Lounge: Apple Express to run audio from iTunes

Bathroom: Apple Express to run audio from iTunes

Here is what i wanna do with it:

I would love the audio from my music videos (being streamed from my PC to my philips streamium) to be played through the house via the speakers connected to my express's throughout the house

Would this be atall be possible? i guess not right now? but guess it would be possible if apple released a video streming unit (same as the streamium) as apple would make the express's compatiable

Im summary, i would love to stream my music videos to my LCD via my phillips streamium with the audio being sent round the house via my Express's

Anyway - if anyone could think of a way to get my system up and running, please let me know

Many Thanks

I don't have two Airport Expresses to try it, but iTunes (6) does support streaming to multiple speakers. On the Speaker buton on the bottom click it and at the bottom it has an option "Multiple Speakers . . ." It brings up a list of all speakers available with check boxes next to each one. They probably did this becuase of this program, which also does it:

Some things to consider:

1. Make sure you're using 802.11g and not b on your mac. I have an old iMac and have problems streaming with the old 802.11b card.

2. If you're going long distances and want to extend your network instead of join a network you have to have a router compatible with WDS, which is used by Airport Express. The Airport Extreme will work but I've heard some third party routers will also - Linksys and Buffalo, I beleive use the same chips and may work. This isn't necessary if distance isn't a problem, though.

Video is another question.
