Just one quick question. Is there any hope for me for an incar solution? I have a 2002 Nissan Xterra w/o a cassette player. It does not have an AUX in port. I have tried the wireless FM transmitter, but with no prevail. The sound is terrible and too much of a hassle. Is there any other options. I don't mind buying something and having a store "best buy ect" get down and dirtyt and go under into the stereo, but I desperately want to use it in the car. Does any1 have any advice or any1 have an Xterra? Do I have any hope?

How about an FM Modulator?

There are two types-bypass and overide. Bypass allow you to switch between radio and ipod. Overide type tries to outdrive the radio signal.

Ok, so there is hope? I guess your pointing me in the way of the FM Modulator. COuld you give me some more info on it, and what kinds and such?

Which xmitter did you try? I have a Monster iCarplay which is actually quite reasonable. Clean one cable xmit and charge.

I had a Clarion FM200, bypass type, but a search here will get you a lot more info on modulators.

No adapter cables for RCA to CD changer input available?

Well that was my question. I would think there has gotta be a way to get my ipod to play through the 6 cd changer. No way no how do I want a wireless transmitter, just don't like em, sorry. So anything to bypass over the radio or cd, but i want a cable, not wirelessly. Sounds kinda weird, but sound quality is much better where i live compared to wireless. Thanks!

try researching the PIE X3 (http://store.myradiostore.com/piex3auxinad.html) .... it tricks your h/u into thinking audio is coming from the changer, but the audio is really coming from your aux source (ipod in this case)

a friend of mine used this and it worked great. i was going to use this in my jetta instal, but i just upgraded the head unit..

check out my instal (in my signature) for some tips on powering your ipod and such

Sounded great, but checked out the website, and first of all, they don't even make it for Nissan Xterra, just the Quest. :( Also, it says that I need an external cd changer. i don't have one that I bought after I bought the car (like in the trunk or anything.) All I've got is the factory cd changer in the dash. Any other ideas?

well, if they make one for the quest, my bet is you can get one for the xtera... usually car manufactures use the same radio across the line of their cars, so it wouldnt hurt to email dension and ask them what they can do for you... if the really dont have anything that would work... the only think i can say is...

how do you feel about changing your head unit... ?

Well, how much would that cost? I don't mind, as long as I can mount my ipod and play it in my car, for a reasonable amount.
Thanks

Hard wired is definitely better.

If you are not married to the stock HU, get one with a direct aux-in. I did a Dual 6810, rear panel aux-in, lists at $129. Kicks a$$ and is a real clean "no visible wires" install with the Apple dock for power and connection.

www.crutchfield.com will let you speak with a tech for n/c or look online to see whats available for your specific truck.

Covers the bases until the Alpine setup comes out!

i put in the blaupunkt sacremento cd33 in my jetta instal... its a real nice unit with alot of features and power for the $$

check the link in my signatre to a link to the unit... crutchfield has it for $120 with aux in (aux in is an option.. make sure you ask them for it)

If you decide on a new head unit - lean towards the Kenwood and Sony units, the ice>Link will adapt seamlessly to those units.

The Alpine head units will work too, if M-Bus protocol is present (not the new Ai-Net).

As soon as the head unit is upgraded, you have the option of purchasing on the the Sony/Kenwood specific ice>Link kits for $159, allowing the iPod to work as a CD Changer and using the control functions on the head unit to control the iPod, including a charging base for your iPod.

Unfortunately, we have had trouble with the Nissan/Infiniti units in the past - there are many different versions of interfaces that were used in the past - it's hard to tell the head units apart! We are working diligently on producing a kit in the meantime.

Yea, Tom@densionusa. I was really hoping that the icelink would work out, as I saw it in Macworld and fell in love with it. It looks so cool. So total, how much am I looking at in order for the ipod to play in my car? Thanks

Or buy an entry level HU with aux input starting at $129.00 from Crutchfield.com.

Look at the Blaupunkt, Aiwa and Dual units. I did the Dual 6810, rear panel aux in-standard-no extra cables to buy. EZ, clean, cheap. Costs less than a lot of adapters alone.

Alpine M-bus if you want the Dension adapter, get a 2004 HU w/Ai-Net if you want the Alpine iPod ready adapter when it debuts.

Sorry. You're out of luck. Since the in-dash 6 CD changer is an all-in-one-unit it doesn't have the aux DIN connector in the rear of the unit. There is no need for one since the CD changer is in the head unit.

If you don't want to use an FM transmitter or an FM modulator then your only option is a new, aftermarket head unit with an auxiliary input. You can then use the SIK imp cable to hook up your iPod. Visit this link to see my hardwire install of a 40gb, G3 iPod in my 2002 Xterra.

yeah, thats perfect... thats the unit i have in my jetta instal...

BUT, you'll need the folowing adapters to make this head unit work with an aux source....

Blaupunkt BPVA08 (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xdqdKuInCsX/cgi-bin/prodview.asp?wm=fa&I=023BPVA08) and Blaupunkt AUXIN1R (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-xdqdKuInCsX/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?i=023AUXIN1R&search=023AUXIN1R).

make sure you order those too, this head unit does not have aux pugs on the back of the head unit

Before you go out and get a new HU, you should contact Pacific Audio (pac-audio.com). They recently announced that the AAI-NIS product they're releasing for the Infiniti G35 is compatible with the following Nissans: Murano, 350Z, Maxima and Quest. Perhaps they haven't tested the Xterra yet...but it's a possible Nissan solution.

This will not work if he has the in-dash 6 cd changer as there is no DIN port on the rear of the head unit. If he has the in-dash 6 CD changer he is out of luck and the only way to get a TRUE auxiliary input is to purchase a new aftermarket head unit. It sucks but it is true.

Virtually any Kenwood/Sony unit that supports an external CD changer will work with the ice>Link:iPod. We also have a kit that will work with the Alpine HU as long as it uses the M-Bus protocol.

The ice>Link kit for these units is also less expensive compared to the vehicle specific kits ($159).

You can use another head unit with an AUX input, but you will lose the features of controlling the iPod with the HU. If you are fine with this, we offer an AUX ice>Link for $119 which features a +4v output and charging cradle, but does not offer any of the control functions of the vehicle-specific ice>Link kits.

You're probably right... but the reason I posted the suggestion is because I also have an in-dash CD changer in my G35, but it also has an extra SAT input, which is where the adapter will plug into. I don't know what the Xterra has, so I'm merely suggesting that he look into it since it's also likely a Nissan/Bose setup.

The upgraded stereo in a 2002 Xterra consists of a passive Panasonic head unit with an external Rockford Fosgate amp and Clarion speakers.

Like I said, I don't know much about the Xterra. Obviously, you do. Just trying to be helpful.

No problem. I'm not trying to be a "know-it-all" but just trying to share the knowledge that I acquired in my quest to hardwire my iPod into my 2002 Xterra.

I think that your advice is valid and should at least be looked into because one never knows what has changed since I did my research.

Take care. :)

It's all good, MaloCS. I'm sure those with Xterra's will benefit from your info. To be more specific, PAC is stating compatibility with 04 models of the Nissans I listed.
