Yeahhh.... so I listen to my iPod at night and I usually have it plugged in. So I guess I rolled over it the other night and now the firewire port is really loose. It still works but pretty soon it's going to stop working. Or worse... the power supply will touch something it shouldn't frying the whole thing.

I looked at Tom's Hardware and it seems like a tricky part to fix because it's under another peice of metal.

Has anyone tried fixing this problem, or even strengthened their ipod's Firewire port? I feel dumb because my ipod was running so well for the past year and I should have just purchased a headphones jack extender.

I have contacted one person about repairs, but if anyone else reccomends someone let me know.

I must say that this is the only part of the ipod that I find is badly engineered, though perhaps its not apple's fault per-se.

But basically since Im an electronics enigineer I get to play with computer hardware a lot, and ppl will back me up on this - you get a feel for how hard you can 'manhandle' stuff after a while.

And getting the firewire cable out of the pod just feels -wrong- to me.. Sure i can grab it and yank, but for now my ipod is new enough for me to be gentle and slowly, sensitively pry it out..

Just imagin a 200 pound person rolling over their iPod in their sleep while it's plugged into the charger. Mmm... broken Firewire port.

It's actually on it's way to Texas to be fixed but a nice company for a fraction of what Apple wants. I'll let you know when it comes back what I think of their work.
