best earphones for cheap guy

can anybody recommend the best earphones for a guy who travels a lot, takes his ipod to the gym, who doesn't find the apple-style earbuds comfortable (they keep falling off!) and who is extremely cheap? by cheap i mean like $20 or less.

i did some experimenting by removing the foamy things off my included apple earphones and putting them on my phillips around-the-ear buds and discovered

1. apple ones fit better w/o foamy things on

2. phillips ones sound better w/ foamy things and fit still better than apple ones

3. apple ones sound better than phillips ones.

so i think i'm set. apple ones for every day use, phillips ones for workouts.
